Kiama Downs Surf Life Saving Club patrols on Jones
Beach, Kiama Downs from October - April each year.
Nippers meet every Sunday morning during the patrolling
season. Training in First Aid, Resuscitation and surf skills
are undertaken on a regular basis.
Kiama Downs beach is a relative straight 900 m long east-facing beach, located between 30m high Minnamurra Point and basalt columns of the southern Cathedral Rocks. The beach is also known as Jones and Boyds beach, with the surf club and backing community called Kiama Downs. A road runs the length of the beach, with the northern half given over to the dunes, parks and the Kiama Downs SLSC (founded 1982), while some beachfront houses back the southern half.
The beach receives waves averaging 1-1.5 m, which result in a single bar usually cut by six, including permanent rips against each headland, the northern being the stronger. Rocks also occur in the surf toward the southern end.
